New signs and fencing at Gee Cross
Hyde College on Stockport Road, Gee Cross opened around 1960. It later became part of Tameside College and was closed in July 2007. Having been in mothballs for many years the site was sold in order to help fund a super college in Ashton under Lyne and despite being on Green Belt land a planning application was made for an estate of 40 houses to be built on the site. It appears that work is now about to start on "a collection of new 4 & 5 bedroom homes".
According to a local politician the developers have gained outline permission which is not the same as "permission to build" and they currently have a "real" planning application which started earlier this month. So perhaps the signs are a little premature.
A contribution to signs, signs and Good Fences.

That sounds like quite large homes, so lets hope that means large blocks for gardens. Nothing like the wisdom of progress... we hope.
ReplyDeleteHumble little shacks!
ReplyDeleteIt would be better to build a few starter homes for the younger generation.
ReplyDeleteWow, they will be big homes. Great fence shots. Happy Thursday, have a great weekend ahead!
ReplyDeleteI didn't realize homes that large were being built in Great Britain!
ReplyDeleteDevelopers will just build something that takes up almost all of the land... and to hell with greenspace. They treat zoning laws as suggestions.
ReplyDeleteMy those sound like some good sized homes. - At least the land is being utilized now. The fencing will be necessary during construction to keep people out.
ReplyDelete'progress' strikes again. i do like the brick wall, though.
ReplyDeleteI hope they don't impact on the old peoples home (Bowlacre) which is next door to the build site.
ReplyDeleteThe previous application was outline only, there is currently another planning application just submitted for full planning - the ref is 15/00885/REM
ReplyDeleteIn terms of greenbelt, I believe the site is classed as brownfield, even though within the greenbelt - as the council website puts it "A brownfield site is any land, which has previously been used for any purpose and is no longer in use for that purpose.".
I'd urge anyone with any comments on the application to leave them officially via the council website and not simply use this or other websites & hope they get seen and heard.
