Stephen was on a canal boat last Bank Holiday Weekend doing the "Cheshire Ring" and took this photograph of the Peak Forest Canal in Hyde as it bends South again having passed under the M67 motorway and around the canal bend opposite the old Automasters site.
Compare it with my own photograph taken from the towpath a few weeks later which can be seen on Hyde Daily Photograph.

Clogged Canal Sluice Gates

These old sluice gates near to where the Peak Forest Canal bends North to pass under the M67 motorway are now clogged up with algae.
For a wider shot that includes a glimpse of the new houses on the old Automasters site see Geograph.

Theatre Royal's door opens for Heritage Days 2010

As I reported on Hyde Daily Photo, today and tomorrow the door is open at Hyde Theatre as part of the Heritage Open Day scheme.
Standing outside is projectionist Arthur Wilde.

Only the ground floor auditorium was open for view this year. Here members of the Theatre Royal Onward Trust pose with Jean Brazil, the Mayor of Tameside and local MP Jonathan Reynolds for an offical photograph.

For the full history of the theatre and the fight to save it, visit the Theatre Royal Onward Trust website.
My photographs of the inside from the 2006-2008 open days can be seen at http://www.geraldengland.co.uk/gx/royal.htm.

Hyde FC and Manchester City Reserves

This is the main entrance to Ewen Fields the home of Hyde FC.
From 2010 the ground will also be home to Manchester City Reserves for at least the next three years. As part of the deal, an upgrade of facilities has dramatically transformed Ewen Fields, with a new colour scheme and general improvements to the ground.

A photograph of the new main stand can be found on Hyde Daily Photo and a history of the club can be found on Old Hyde.

Werneth Low Golf Course from the Clubhouse.

I had the pleasure of visiting Werneth Low Golf Club last week and took a few shots from the clubhouse.

The view Southwards stretches over the Etherow Valley towards Marple.

According to the club website it was founded in 1912.

This shot looks East towards Werneth Low Road.
Another photograph can be found on Hyde Daily Photo.

End of Grange Road North

This is the Southern end of Grange Road North.
Certainly for motor vehicles it is the end of the road. Fail to stop and they run the risk of crashing over the embankment on to what was once the busy Godley to Apethorn railway carrying coal trains from Yorkshire to Merseyside.
Now the track is gone and used by walkers, cyclists and horse-riders as part of the Trans Pennine Trail.
From the end of the pavement a footpath leads down on to the trail, or you can turn left and cross a bridge to Donald Avenue which you can see on Hyde Daily Photo.
