ABC Wednesday:U is for Union Street (looking West)
Looking West along Union Street to the library, originally Hyde Technical School and Free Library. It opened in 1897 replacing the former Mechanics Institute. In recent years the building was shared between the library and Tameside College but the college has moved out and the library has been extensively refurbished.
The car park to the left is on the site of the original Hyde Baths.
For the view looking East see Hyde Daily Photo.

Interesting how our little towns change over the decades.
ReplyDeleteI wonder why so many UK towns have a Union Street? I thought you would be the person to ask.

You always have such fascinating shots. Amazing how little traffic is seen.
