Floral tributes to PCs Fiona Bone and Nicola Hughes have been laid at a makeshift shrine on the side of Ashworth Lane near to where the two policewomen were gunned down on Tuesday morning.
This was the location from which TV reporters were broadcasting. A timeline of events can be seen on the BBC Manchester news site.
It was a showery day and the reporter had left his umbrella in the grass by the side of the road and his coffee-cup on the boot of a car.
One of the policemen kindly escorted me through the cordon, past the murder scene and to the other end of Ashworth Lane so I could continue my walk into Mottram.
See the tributes on the Mottram side of Ashworth Lane on Hyde Daily Photo.
An online book of condolences is on the Greater Manchester Police website.
