Resurfacing work has been taking place all week on Market Street and Dowson Road with the latter closed to through traffic between about 9am and 4pm. Market Street was reduced to a single lane controlled by traffic lights and diverted traffic was queueing all the way through Gee Cross. This was how it was looking on Tuesday morning.

Here is a closer view of the steam-roller (although they are not steam-operated these days).

A view of the Dowson Road/Market Street Junction can be found on Hyde Daily Photo.

  1. I'm a bit of a pedant as far as the English language and grammar are concerned, so I shouldn't be surprised when people (quite correctly) pull me up for saying 'steam-roller'. They're normally called 'road-rollers' nowadays. I still think I'm correct, however' in saying 'railway stations' instead of the annoying and childish sounding 'train stations' which most people call them now.
