Heron on the Peak Forest Canal

Yesterday we totally avoided the aftermath of the election (not even turning on the TV) by taking a trip on the Peak Forest Canal to celebrate my son's 34th birthday. It was lovely sunshine on the way down from Ashton to Romiley but for the return journey we had heavy rain, not that Craig cared about the rain.

One highlight of the return trip was catching sight of a heron just north of the M67.

Before it dived into the water it appeared to have a stand-off with a Canada Goose. The geese are seen in great numbers on the canal and we saw many goslings.

I took around seventy photographs which I'll be editing over the next week or so and publishing in various places.

The trip was aboard Community Spirit, a narrowboat operated by the East Manchester Community Boat Project.

  12. Beautiful captures of this one- they're bigger of course than the geese, but the geese tend to flock in numbers.
