Franks Barber Shop

When I took this photograph of Franks barber shop on Dowson Road a few weeks ago a note in the window said "Closed due to illness - Re-open soon". Alas Frank's illness proved terminal so the shop will not be re-opening soon.

A contribution to Ruby Tuesday and Our World Tuesday.

  1. That is sad not just for the family but the community as well.

  3. The shop looks as if it has been there for quite a long time. Hope it has a chance to be preserved.

  5. It has akind of old world charm to it. I don't think this kind of shop even exist in Norway any more - only unisex hairdressers.

  8. I used the shop for years and felt I knew the chap who ran it almost as a friend: I hardly know anyone in Hyde despite
    living there for fifty-odd
    years. Does anyone have any
more info. on him and on
what happened to him ? I'd
like to 'pay my respects' if
only from a distance.I never thought he'd die like that, but then you never do.

  9. My husband has been going to Frank's for years even though we moved a few miles away. He had to go elsewhere when he saw that it was closed but hoped he would be back again. We took our son to Frank since being a baby but he has left the area now. Really sorry. He was a really nice chap.

  11. Deeply saddened by this news, I've been going to Franks every 6 weeks for the last 20+ years ... lost without him ... I've had to visit 'others' but alas nobody has yet provided the atmosphere Frank did. Drove past this morning hoping to see the lights on, then searched Google - sad sad news indeed.
