Premises on Market Street

Left to right:

In Kelly's 1914 Directory #34 Market Street was listed as the offices of the Britannic Assurance Co. The doorway which used to carry the words "Onward Chambers" leads to the upper two storeys of the building which have recently been renovated and are now the offices of accountants Hardy & Company.

#32 Market Street used to be the Taste of India Restaurant. Now it is home to Paper Tulips, an arts & crafts workshop and gift shop.

#30 Market Street is now Pound Zone. I am informed that the shop was originally Swindell's chemists.

Across Cross Street is the Brooke Surgery whose address is #20 Market Street. It is named after Brooke's Ironmongers which had occupied the site until 1992 - see the Hydonian blog for photos of the old shop.

A contribution to Our World Tuesday.

  1. Fascinating how the tenants change over time. The buildings still look well cared for.
