And a stream runs through it

The South-East corner of Hyde Park consists of a wild wooded area with a brook flowing through it. Here we are looking upstream.

It is crossed just a little further downstream by a moss-covered bridge which you can see on Hyde Daily Photo.

The area downstream of the bridge can be seen on my photoblog sithenah.

A Sign for Horseriders

Back in July I showed you the nettles obscuring the sign for horseriders on the TransPennine Trail approaching Knott Fold Bridge.

Well I was back down there a few weeks ago and the nettles have been cleared.

Nearby, meanwhile, one of the old signal posts left over from the days when this was a busy freight railway line, has been attacked by bindweed as you can see on Hyde Daily Photo.

Behind the Quarry Wall

In a post of July 2006 I showed you the back of The Werneth Hotel from the top of Treacle Brow.

In July 2008 I showed you the construction work proceeding over the road on King Edward Avenue and then in April 2009 the new houses completed.

Today's photograph is looking in the opposite direction from King Edward Avenue showing the quarry wall with the Werneth Hotel on Stockport Road behind it.

To the left is Treacle Brow; the buildings in the background are on Mottram Old Road.

See a view of the new estate from King Edward Avenue on Hyde Daily Photo and a century old view on Old Hyde.

Approach from Stockport

This is the approach along the A560 from Stockport and Woodley towards Hyde.

Just round the bend on the right is the newest pub in the area, the Joshua Bradley whilst on the left are the grounds of Pole Bank Hall.

There is a closer view of the boundary sign on Hyde Daily Photo.

Warble Wharf

Last week I showed here the Peak Forest Canal at Dunkirk Lane.

Take the towpath under the bridge and it will lead you past Warble Wharf, a private mooring on the opposite bank accessed from Broadway.

Last time I was here there were some fishermen on the bank nearby - see them on Hyde Daily Photo.

3-legged Cat

A stray cat with only three legs turned up outside the Central Methodist Church a few weeks ago. One of the ladies who serves tea on a Saturday morning bought it some food.

I don't know what has happened to it since, but there's another photo on Hyde Daily Photo.

Peak Forest Canal at Dunkirk Lane

Walk down Dunkirk Lane from Newton Hall past the Starchaser Rocket and you reach the Peak Forest Canal.

This is the access to the towpath looking South towards Hyde.

You can see the view Northwards from Dunkirk Bridge on my photoblog sithenah and the bridge itself on Hyde Daily Photo.

On the Stockport Boundary

In the wall outside what is now the Joshua Bradley a stone marks the boundary between the ancient townships of Werneth and Bredbury.

Now it is the boundary between the Metropolitian Boroughs of Tameside and Stockport.

You can see a 1984 closeup of the stone by Janet Howie on Old Hyde and a 2009 closeup by Gerald England on Hyde Daily Photo.

Swampy Ground

Turn left at the footpath junction in Gower Hey Woods and you come to this area of swampy ground.

Fortunately duckboards have been laid across it leading to steps that will bring you out on the TransPennine Trail.

Back in April, the swamp was full of buttercups.

1738 Cottage on Joel Lane

This white stone cottage on Joel Lane was built in 1738.

See how it looked in 1983 on Old Hyde.
