Down Market Street
This was the scene down Market Street on the first Saturday in January around 9.45 a.m. Hyde Market is on the right and Wilkinsons (previously KwikSave and before that the Co-op) is across the road on the corner of Greenfield Street.
Overnight there had been a sharp frost and fresh snow started falling around 8.30 a.m. so by the time people went out to start shopping even the main roads were affected. The snow had stopped briefly which was when I took this and some other photographs. It soon started snowing again though and continued most of the day.
By lunch time though the gritters had been out, the main roads were passable and the market ground was awash with salty slush.
The next photograph I took was looking up Market Street from the middle of the road by the bollard you can see. That photograph is on Hyde Daily Photo now.
