Windy Harbour Plinth
This plinth at Windy Harbour on Werneth Low was donated by the Automobile Association and erected in 1986. It is dedicated to W Shelmerdine (1912-1982) about whom I have no information. An additional dedication has been added to J E Shelmerdine (1916-1996). Jane was one of the victims of Harold Shipman.
The plinth is a toposcope showing the distance to the various landmarks visible from the viewpoint.
You can see the view over the top of the plinth on Hyde Daily Photo.

well this is something new to me. Its a great idea placing the distance mark. subtly telling the people not to dare to swim, instead to use a boat to reach the spot.. :)
ReplyDeletevery interesting picture.
