
This plinth at Windy Harbour on Werneth Low was donated by the Automobile Association and erected in 1986. It is dedicated to W Shelmerdine (1912-1982) about whom I have no information. An additional dedication has been added to J E Shelmerdine (1916-1996). Jane was one of the victims of Harold Shipman.
The plinth is a toposcope showing the distance to the various landmarks visible from the viewpoint.

well this is something new to me. Its a great idea placing the distance mark. subtly telling the people not to dare to swim, instead to use a boat to reach the spot.. :)
