Last Thursday afternoon council workmen were planting plants in the new planter on the south side of Hyde Market Ground.

The same view on Saturday morning when Tameside Radio were there to cover the official opening of Hyde Civic Square following a £1.2 million revamp of Hyde Market. See the start of the work in our post of 13th February 2012.

There was a program of events for the day which included songsters from the Tameside Centre for Performing Arts, music by members of Tameside Music Service, dancers, a stilt-walker and much else.

I did my shopping in Clarendon Mall before returning to the market ground, so missed the opening speech by the Mayor. A group of girls from Hyde Clarendon Sixth Form College were singing "Time Warp" and very good they sounded.

A closer view of the group is on Hyde Daily Photo.

A contribution to Our World Tuesday.

  3. Nice set of pictures Gerald... Jane and I had a walk around, alas I could not make it to the Millennium Park... things like this can only do the town good, and it was nice to see people wearing their 'I Love Hyde' T-shirts.
