C is for Clarkes Arms

The Clarkes Arms is a Wilsons' pub on the corner of Stockport Road and Lumn Road. Whilst a number of nearby hostelries have closed in recent years this one has survived.

It derives its name from Captain Clarke - for details of the man see Old Hyde.

A contribution to ABC Wednesday.

  1. It all sounds so elegant, and to think it is just a pub. It is beautiful. Here is a pub "Greensboro, NC USA" style. We should both take "inside" photos now! Happy ABC Wed. I almost used it for "C" is for canine.

  2. This used to be my local once upon a time. I recall that it nearly went out of business and there was talk of forming a syndicate to keep it open - a sort of locals' local as it were.
