The Clarkes Arms is a Wilsons' pub on the corner of Stockport Road and Lumn Road. Whilst a number of nearby hostelries have closed in recent years this one has survived.
It derives its name from Captain Clarke - for details of the man see
Old Hyde.

This used to be my local once upon a time. I recall that it nearly went out of business and there was talk of forming a syndicate to keep it open - a sort of locals' local as it were.
ReplyDeletelets hope it stays open in the future... to many wonderful things already have been gone... sadly enough.
