F is for Flowery Field Cricket Club
Flowery Field Cricket Club was formed in 1838. It runs three senior teams together with several junior sides and has modern facilities including an air-conditioned pavilion and enclosed practice nets.
FFCC was a member of the Saddleworth and District Cricket League for most of the twentieth century but resigned as reigning champions in 2003 to join the Lancashire County League. For 2016 they will join the newly created Greater Manchester Cricket League.
Compare with the 2009 view on Hyde Daily Photo Vol.1 and note the now missing chimney and Castrol works in the background.

Cricket never really took off here in Canada- though there is a field for it at Rideau Hall where the Governor General lives. I saw a game for the first time last summer when I went there.
ReplyDeleteLove the name of the cricket field.
ReplyDeleteIntersting contrast between now and then, my mum having once worked at Castrol.
ReplyDeleteI love to watch cricket it looks so nice to see the white dressed men on the green grass !
