Last week I saw the moon over Garside Street - see the scene on Hyde Daily Photo.
I zoomed in on the moon and this is how it looked straight out of the camera.
A little enhancement using PaintShop Pro brought out the contours.
A grey-scale version can be seen on Ackworth born, gone West.

This is very un-romantic but it reminds of . . . I don't know what you call them . . . but they are little rubber hemispheres which you flatten and a few seconds later they fly into the air. Perhaps that's how the moon came to be in the sky.
